Report generator

IUCLID 6 includes a Report Generator to extract IUCLID data and to present this data in a user-friendly report. Reports are used in a variety of other business processes, both by industry and by authorities. This feature of IUCLID 6 allows you to create a Chemical Safety Report (CSR) in a printable format (RTF or PDF) or, in XML format, as well as a Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) report in XML format. You can also generate a printable report of Literature References, of Attachments for Mixture/Products and Substances, as well as a list of Confidentiality claims for Mixture/Products (BPR Article 66).

The Report Generator feature also allows you to manage and generate reports which are not by default available in IUCLID 6. See the IUCLID 6 Help Manual for more information on generating and managing reports.

Creating your own reports

The Report Generator allows the possibility to customise your own report templates and to use these with the Report Generator to extract data from IUCLID’s datasets and dossiers. The Report Generator allows you to define what output options are available for each customised report. Common outputs include:

  • CSV
  • PDF
  • RTF
  • XML

In the report manager, you can define additional outputs to those listed above.

In order to upload and manage a report template, follow these steps:

  1. Left-click on the Report generator icon on the IUCLID dashboard.
  2. Click on ‘Manage reports’, which then opens the Manage reports box.
  3. Click ‘Add’ in the bottom left-hand corner of the Manage reports box.
  4. Fill in the various details of your report and upload the relevant report template files.
  5. Click ‘Save’.
  6. When you come to generate a report, based on your selections above, you will see your customised template and the available output types.

In order to use a quick shortcut to upload a report template and generate a report, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the dataset or dossier you wish to generate a report for by selecting it from the Navigation Panel.
  2. Press Ctrl +Alt + R to launch the Report Generator wizard.
  3. Browse for the report template file which you have downloaded from this IUCLID 6 webpage.
  4. Once you have selected the template and pressed ‘Save’, click next in the Report Generator wizard.
  5. In the next wizard step you can choose where your report will be saved on your local environment.

You will see the same steps above illustrated in a short document, using the example of the generation of the EU Biocidal Product Regulation (BPR) Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) XML file.

Creating your own report templates

IT developers, or users with a certain level of IT skills, can create their own report templates in order to generate reports based on IUCLID data, using the IUCLID 6 Report Generator.

Basic instructions are made available together with a few examples:

  • DocBook report template example (.ftl)
  • XML report template example (.ftl)
  • Test IUCLID 6 dataset (.i6z)

Stylesheets

When creating your own report templates, you can also upload your own stylesheet (.xsl) file into the Report Generator which adds extra formatting conditions to the .rtf output. Here are two stylesheets which you can use as a basis for creating your own stylesheets:

  • Default IUCLID stylesheet (.xsl) used with the CSR report
  • Modified stylesheet (.xsl) allowing you to convert the Word document into a landscape format and permits various colours to be included inside the main report template.

Sharing your report templates

If you wish to share the templates you have customised and potentially have these published on the IUCLID 6 website, please contact ECHA through the IUCLID functional mailbox.
